Rights Education Workshops for Older People

The provincial Department of Social Development funds a number of workshops aimed at educating the elderly about their rights in terms of the Older Persons Act (Act 13 of 2006), which was signed into law in November 2006. |
VOORSKRIFTE: |
The provincial Department of Social Development has undertaken to educate 250 older people about their rights in 2007, having reached the target of 200 people in 2006. This education drive takes the form of a number of one-day workshops throughout the province. 1. WORKSHOP DURATION One day. If the workshop goes over lunchtime, food and liquid refreshments will be provided.2. TRANSPORT Transport to and from the workshops will be provided, if not by the facility where the older people stay, then by the Department.3. ACCESSING THE WORKSHOPS The District Offices throughout the province will notify the many old-age homes in their areas whenever there is a workshop taking place.Older people who do not live in old-age homes are encouraged to register with the District Office or a Service Club near them so that they can be notified when the next workshop is taking place. |
