Stellenbosch fire

Every possible effort is underway to control the fire in the Stellenbosch area, currently in the Mondfleur Neck.

The Provincial Disaster Management component has the authority and has requested the SANDF to assist with a fire-fighting Oryx helicopter and another is on standby. This is in addition to the two helicopters from Working on Fire and the fire-fighting helicopter from the City of Cape Town. A spotter plane is also assisting.

Although no structures were damaged the fire is currently raging through farms in the area and the fire-fighting teams are monitoring possible threats to structures. All fire-fighting capacity in the District has been deployed and the City of Cape Town is on standby.

Mitchell's Pass in Ceres

At this stage the fire at the Mitchell's Pass near Ceres is under control. Fire-fighting teams are monitoring the hotspots in the area. The fire at one stage raged at a 5 km x 5 km fire front.

Bainskloof

The fire in the mountains at Bainskloof has been contained.

There have been no casualties thus far. Once again all emergency services and fire fighting teams in the area must be thanked for their work. These fires which started yesterday at approximately 04:00, have been monitored closely by the Disaster Management component of the Western Cape and at this stage considerable infrastructure and personnel from various spheres of government are deployed and focused on the task at hand.
