Lord Stern stepped down as Head of the Government Economic Service in March 2007 to take up the IG Patel Professorship at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Nicholas Stern became Lord Stern of Brentford in December 2007, when he was appointed to the House of Lords as a non-party-political peer.
