Social incubator programme is the contribution of the Department in the overall social capital strategy. In terms of the programme, schools at identified Presidential nodal areas will be bombarded with a wide range of sporting and cultural activities to engage pupils, teachers and community members after school hours.
The launch at Mitchell's Plain, a joint project with the Department of Education will see about 800 learners from schools in the area experiencing a glimpse of what the social incubator programme will be like when it is rolled out next year.
The programme is drawing the expertise of Department's sport volunteers, mass participation sport volunteers, the cultural component, libraries and museums to ensure there are good programmes to keep learners and community occupied during and after school hours on a daily basis. The Department is planning to firstly roll out the programme at Khayelitsha and Beaufort West in the beginning of next year.
The activities of the day include mini-cricket, volleyball, basketball, indigenous games, education on libraries services, cultural animators, storytelling to mention but a few.
