This gives an anormous injection of confidence and is a welcome break with the self-doubt that has characterised our efforts in the last weeks. I now call on all citizens of the Province and the City to unite in getting ready for 2010. I call on citizens to do forward planning so that we all benefit from this World Cup.
The Mayor's estimation of costs is premature. We are not seeking to replicate the high-tech German stadia. No design work has yet been done and, therefore, no Quantity Surveyor has yet been engaged. We will cut our suit according to our cloth.
I have spoken to the LOC's Mr Danny Jordaan and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Jabu Moleketi who will despatch a Technical Team to assist with the costing and other related matters, now that there is no longer any doubt about Greenpoint as our venue. Only once this has been done - at the hand of clear designs and specifications - can we speak to issues of costs.
I now anticipate that it is all systems go for Green Point. Fortunately we have already started on the various impact assessment and planning work, in anticipation of an eventual agreement on Greenpoint.
The World wants to be in Cape Town for 2010. We must now get ready.
