| The wife of the Premier of the Western Cape, Rosieda Saboedien-Rasool participated in a National Tree Planting Ceremony at Leeuwenhof by planting the tree of the year, a False Cabbage tree, in the Leeuwenhof African Garden. Leeuwenhof, a national heritage site, is known for its beautiful endemic garden. Horticulturist André Rossouw says they are expanding the African garden to focus more on endemic and usable plants. This garden will be planted on the site where the slaves had originally established their own vegetable garden. Astrid Badenhorst, horticulture lecturer at the Cape College, also joined in the ceremony. | ![]() Rosieda Saboedien-Rasool, Andre Rossouw and Astrid Badenhorst at the tree planting ceremony. |
