MISSION: Our mission is to improve the health of people in the Western Cape and beyond, by ensuring the provision of a balanced health care system, in partnership with stakeholders, within the context of optimal socio-economic development BREWELSKLOOF HOSPITAL - DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WESTERN CAPE
Brewelskloof Hospital is a specialised TB hospital for the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts that admits both adults and children and is one of the six TB hospitals of the Western Cape. No fees are handled as TB treatment is a free service offered by Provincial Government.
It is also the designated multi-drug resistant (MDR) specialist centre and is responsible for the management of MDR patients in the region.
It presently has 206 beds for TB patients and 15 beds for the Case Verification ward of the SATVI project (research done by the University of Cape Town)
ADMISSION CRITERIA
Diagnosed TB patients who:
- are too ill to take medication at the local clinic
- experience side effects of TB drugs
- have resistant strains of TB
- need injections and cannot receive it on a daily basis locally
- have a history of defaulting treatment
- have poor social circumstances, especially children in this situation
