Provincial Musicians' Conference

DESCRIPTION:
The Provincial Musicians' Conference is hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and takes place on Tuesday 7th & Wednesday 8th March 2006 at the BOE conference centre, Waterfront.

The event includes presentations, group discussions and a cocktail function showcasing the local talent of musicians.

Approxiamtely 350 stakeholders from the music industry were invited to the conference including musicians, sound engineers, event managers, DJs, promoters, educators and composers.

Professional presenters will form part of the programme,doing the presentations:

  • Isreal Lebogo, chairperson of the National Musician Union of South Africa, will be presenting on how to establish a musicians association & the benefits thereof, as well as establishing of a benevolent fund & the management thereof.
  • Joel Baloyi, representative of SAMRO (Southern African Music Rights Organisation), will be presenting on the Intellectual Property Rights of musicians, songwriters etc.
  • Benjamin de Klerk, the representative from SARS, will be speaking about taxation guidelines for the industry.
  • Ian Smith, musician from the international known group,Virtual Jazz Reality, will be talking about the challenges that the music industry is faced with including, fair employment and remuneration, cultural indentity and rediscovering cultural roots and heritage, and traditional and indegenous music.
  • Andre Petersen, musician & educator, will be presenting on the challenges that young musicians are faced with in 2006, self employment and a new vision for SA musicians.

Musicians and artists including Allou April, the Ncgukana Brothers & Zain Adams will perform at the cocktail function on Tuesday 7th March, between 17h00-19h30.

Other performers include Ibuyambo, Basil Mannenberg, Zandile Gwebityala, Amampondo,4cast band and the Mitchell's Plain choral singers.They will perform at the conference during the arrival and during the lunch sessions. The cultural performances will showcase the cultural diversity of Cape Town.
