One of the objectives of the Cultural Commission is to use funding for cultural projects as a tool to address poverty alleviation, job creation and social transformation. The Commission thus offers people exposure to opportunities for personal and community growth.

The Cultural Commission regards every art form, from jazz to traditional music to ballet, opera, sculpture, painting and crafts as essential elements of a healthy society. It therefore tries to ensure that all artists and art forms are assisted and encouraged in every possible way.

The Cultural Commission is assisted in its work by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and receives political support from the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sport and Recreation.

EXECUTION OF WORK:

Officials of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in the Western Cape fulfil the executive and administrative functions associated with the Western Cape Cultural Commission.
