Getting Funding for Community Safety Projects
DESCRIPTION:
The provincial Department of Community Safety provides funding for anti-crime projects run by registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Community Police Forums. To get funding, projects should be aimed at:
  • reducing violent crime (e.g. attempted murder)
  • reducing social fabric crime (e.g. domestic violence)
  • reducing property crime (e.g. theft)
  • reducing commercial crime (e.g. fraud)
  • supporting SAPS action against "victimless" crimes (e.g. drug dealing).
INSTRUCTIONS:
To qualify for funding, your project must be run by a registered NGO or registered CPF. If your organisation is not registered, you must first register it.

Then you must fill in an application form, which is available from the Department of Community Safety or at police stations or on this website, and submit it to the Department.

The Department investigates the feasibility of projects (sees whether they will work) and prepares the contracts that are needed if an application is successful. When the project is over, it is evaluated to help determine what works.
