Policing Complaints Centre
DESCRIPTION: |
| The Department of Community Safety's Policing Complaints Centre deals with service delivery complaints lodged by members of the public against policing agencies such as the South African Police Service and the Municipal Police Officers. The Centre only handles complaints regarding service delivery, for example if there has been no feedback on a case or if police officers conducted themselves in inappropriate ways. Serious cases sucsh as deaths in police custody are dealt with by the Independent Complaints Directorate. Once complaints are lodged with the Policing Complaints Centre an assessment and/or an initial investigation is made to ascertain the facts of the matter. Efforts are made to resolve the issue by means of networking and interventions with the relevant role players and authorities. If a member of a policing agency is found to be guilty of an alleged misconduct, this finding is submitted to the Provincial Commissioner and/or relevant authority for their further attention. | | |
