HIV/AIDS Social Services
DESCRIPTION:
The provincial Department of Social Development, in partnership with various non-governmental organisations, provides developmental social services for children and families affected by HIV/ AIDS:
  • Early identification of children and families in need, and alternative placements of such children in foster care, with adoptive parents, or residential care.
  • Community based care and support.
  • Poverty alleviation projects, such as soup kitchens and providing nutritional supplements, in high impact communities.
  • Community workshops, peer education and research.
  • Capacity building and training of volunteers and caregivers.
