Registration of Manufacturers, Importers and Builders of Motor Vehicles
DESCRIPTION:
Every vehicle that is manufactured or built in South Africa or is imported to South Africa must be registered before it is distributed or sold.
INSTRUCTIONS:
As the manufacturer or importer of a vehicle, you need to submit form MVR1-MIB at a motor vehicle registration office to have it registered.

The form needs to be accompanied by:

  • the ID of the title holder of the motor vehicle (if the vehicle is purchased under a hire purchase agreement)
  • the ID of the owner of the motor vehicle
  • the appropriate registration fees
  • a certificate issued by the manufacturer, builder or importer stating:
    • the chassis number
    • the engine number
    • the make
    • the model name
    • the tare in kilograms
    • the engine capacity in cubic centimetres
    • the nett engine power
    • the main colour
    • the model number
  • a police clearance certificate
  • a roadworthiness certificate.
