Bursaries in Education (for Teachers)
DESCRIPTION:
The Western Cape Education Department offers bursaries for part-time study to teachers who want to improve their qualifications.

Bursary Requirements

The bursaries are open to teachers with REQV 11, 12, 13 or 14 who are permanent employees of the Western Cape Education Department. It covers the cost of tuition and books in any of the following two-year part-time courses:

  • A National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE) (open to applicants with REQV 11, 12 and 13)
  • An Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) in Computer Application Technology, Arts and Culture, Physical Science or Life Science (open to applicants with REQV 13 or 14)

Where You Can Study

NPDE studies are done at the University of the Western Cape or Cape Peninsula University of Technology. ACE certficates are done through the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Computer Application Technology, Arts and Culture) or the University of Stellenbosch (Physical Science, Life Science).

Bursary Conditions

Bursaries are awarded on a work-back system, in other words, you have to stay in service as a teacher in the Western Cape for each year that you received a bursary.
