What do we want to do?
The Ikapa Elihumayo GDS has 8 key aims or strategic objectives
1. Broader economic participation:
- Aim skills development at carefully targeted groups
- Make human, infrastructural and financial investment
2. Efficient infrastructure that connects people:
Stimulate and sustain economic growth through transport (eg roads, rail links), energy, information communication technology (ICT) and other kinds of infrastructure (eg public amenities and buildings)3. Effective public and non-motorised transport:
Ensure safe access and mobility to all citizens, especially the poor and those cut off from income opportunities4. Liveable communities:
Ensure that human settlements are sustainable and integrated with other developments5. Strong and creative communities:
- Try to encourage social unity
- Connect communities so that they work together and support each other
6. Spatial integration:
Overcome apartheid separation of communities from each other and from workplaces by developing conveniently located land for living, working and recreating, and limiting urban sprawl7. A culture of tolerance and mutual respect:
Recognise social and cultural diversity, and use the strengths of our differences to bring people together8. Effective government institutions:
Set up, maintain and run government offices and helpful services effectively at provincial and local level
