World Summit on the Information Society

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a series of UN-sponsored conferences about information and communication that started in 2002. Bridging the digital divide has been a key aim of the WSIS process. It culminated in a meeting in Tunis in November this year, bringing together nearly 20,000 participants from 174 governments, as well as the media, civil society, business and international organisations. The final statement from WSIS, the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society, will shape the growth of the Internet and the information society for many years to come.

Seven members of the CEI team attended the Tunis meeting, where Cape Gateway was prominently showcased at South Africa's national stand. The meeting was a great opportunity to network with others involved in similar work, as well as to learn about and from other projects.

You can find out more at the WSIS web site.
