Cape Nature Award for Public Works

The Department of Transport and Public Works received an award from Cape Nature in appreciation of the contribution to the Cape Nature/ Umsobomvo Youth Fund National Youth Service Programme for the construction of the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve Youth Development Buildings, at Robertson.

Alfredo Malgas, Richard Petersen, Milné van Leeuwen, Robin Povey and Gary Moodaly accept the certificate.

According to Milné van Leeuwen, senior manager at Works: General Buildings, Public Works has always had a good working relationship with Cape Nature. "A strong partnership has developed over the past few years and this was strengthened with the delivery of the Vrolijkheid facilities."

This R700,000 project consisted of renovations to eight rondavels, including new ceramic floors, cupboards and the upgrading of kitchens, ablution facilities and electrical services. The second phase consisted of the building of a new lecture hall area and study quarters along with the upgrading of the manager's house. The project started in September 2004 and was completed in a very short time frame.
