City of Cape Town Nature Conservation officials released two female Grey Rhebok Pelea capreolus into the Tygerberg Nature Reserve last week. They were donated to the reserve by CapeNature's Wildlife Management Services and were caught at the Waterval Nature Reserve near Tulbagh.

Grey Rhebok are greyish-brown slender, graceful antelope that stand about 0.75m at the shoulder with a mass of 20 kg. They are associated with rocky hills and slopes with good grass cover. The two females were released to start a breeding herd with the one remaining ram on the reserve.

Other antelope on the reserve include Bontebok, Duiker and Cape Grysbok.

Visitors to the reserve can help with the monitoring of the animals by reporting any sightings to the staff at the entrance gates.
