The City of Cape Town has a policy that strictly forbids Solid Waste personnel and other service personnel from asking residents for 'Christmas boxes' and donations. Staff have been informed that anyone found guilty of transgressing this instruction could face disciplinary action.

Councillor John Mokoena, Mayoral Committee Member responsible for Trading Services, said: "Problems have also arisen when people posing as Council staff have asked for money, sometimes rudely and aggressively. We will not tolerate such forceful behaviour, even among our own staff and have accordingly instructed all our staff that soliciting for 'Christmas boxes' and donations is forbidden."

It would be appreciated if residents could report any instances of soliciting by Council staff on 0860 103 089 during office hours, 08:00 - 16:30. Apart from the date, time and place the staff identity number and/or vehicle registration number of staff not heeding the City's instruction must be provided. Such reports will be investigated immediately.
