The tutorial programme forms part of a national initiative to support candidates who failed matric in 2007. The national Department of Education will invest more than R6-million in the programme in the Western Cape.
Candidates who registered and sat for Cape Senior Certificate examinations before 2008 will be able to write Senior Certificate examinations based on the old curriculum until 2011.
Candidates registering for matric for the first time in 2008 will have to write National Senior Certificate examinations based on the new national curriculum.
The support programme will take place at 30 schools throughout the Western Cape from 2 February to 17 May 2008. The programme will include three sessions on Saturday mornings, each lasting 90 minutes, amounting to a total of 15 tutorial sessions.
The WCED has invited experienced tutors to apply to teach the Saturday classes and is already processing applications for these positions.
Candidates who qualify for writing supplementary examinations must register before 31 January 2008.
Those wishing to participate in the Saturday tutorial programme must register at one of the 30 venues on Saturday, 26 January 2008, for a maximum of three subjects. The venues are:

- Geography HG and SG
- History HG and SG
- isiXhosa 1st Language
- Physical Science HG and SG
- Travel and Tourism
- Mathematics HG and SG
