Bee is freely licensed to all government organisations in South Africa and internationally.
The terms of the license include unlimited users and time. The full source code can be shared, modified and used within the government domain for any purpose. This is an initiative towards the realisation of the South African overnment's open source systems policy.
The free licensing of Bee aims to:
- enable other government organisations to make their information available, thereby improving access to government information
- save other government organisations money and time
- develop a dialogue between government organisations on content, agreeing to common standards for interoperability and sharing of government content, for the benefit of all.
Please note that an assessment was made in late 2004 not to roll out Bee to other government bodies due to the instability of the application. Version two of the product will be developed with the same license, however.
