Steps to Follow When a Child is Missing
| DO NOT PANIC |
| Make a brief, reasonable search to determine whether the child is really missing. Check your home, school, close friends and neighbours. |
| Do not ask other children to assist with searches, they might become another missing child. |
| Then immediately report the missing child to your nearest Police Station. |
| Have someone reliable remain at your home to answer telephone calls etc. |
| Take the most recent photo of your child with you to the police station when reporting your child as missing. |
| Give a full description of your child, e.g. the colour of the hair, eyes, height and weight. |
| Make sure the police gives you a reference number and contact name and number of the SAPS officer/s assigned to the investigation. |
| Inform the police what clothing your child was wearing a the time of the disappearance. |
| If any new information is available, contact the police officer dealing with your missing child immediately. |
| Contact your Local Community Police Forum (CPF), Neighbourhood Watch, the organisation Concerned Parents for Missing Children and the Department of Community Safety to assist with the mobilisation of your community in the search. |
