Classifications, Schedules and Codes
HOSPITAL CLASSIFICATION
The three hospital levels, from least to most expensive, are:
- level 1 - usually district hospitals where there are limited specialist services, for example, Hermanus and Mossel Bay hospitals
- level 2 - usually regional hospitals which have at least two specialist services, for example, Conradie and Karl Bremer hospitals
- level 3 - usually academic hospitals which have most specialist services all the time, such as Groote Schuur, Red Cross and Tygerberg hospitals.

PROFESSIONAL CLASSIFICATION
The different professional categories are, from least to most expensive:
- nursing practitioner (NP)
- allied health practitioner (AP)
- general practitioner (GP)
- specialist medical practitioner (SP).
