The Official Launch
The Nobel Square Project was officially launched at the V&A Waterfront on 14 December 2003. The event was attended by Archbishop Emeritus Tutu, former Presidents De Klerk and Mandela, as well as Dr Albertina Luthuli, the daughter of Nkosi Luthuli.
The three Laureates and Dr Luthuli, Messrs Rasool and Van Schalkwyk, and Prof Fatima Abrahams, the then Chairperson of V&A Waterfront Holdings, signed a poster-sized document at the event that will be used as a template for a commemorative plaque to be unveiled together with the sculptures on 16 December 2005.
