This Chief Directorate renders legal services to the Premier, the Provincial Cabinet, the Director-General and all of the Departments of the Administration.

This includes:

• render a legal advisory service;
• draft, edit and verify contracts;
• scrutinise and comment on submissions to the Provincial Cabinet;
• draft legislation in all areas of provincial legislative competence and monitoring and commenting on national legislation;
• minimise and managelitigation;
• provide strategic guidance;
• implement pro-active measures and perform a corporate legal governance function in the execution of all functions,
• to the realise the objectives of the iKapa Growth and Development Strategy and;
• to contribute to the concept of holistic and integrated government.
