Hannan Crusaid ARV Centre
DESCRIPTION:

This specialised centre provides Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Treatment (HAART) to eligible HIV-positive clients, that is, people with clinical stage4 HIV disease, or those with a CD4 count below 200. For more information on anti-retroviral treatment and who qualifies for this treatment from government, click here.

Note: HIV-positive clients who are not yet eligible for HAART are seen at the HIV clinic within the Community Health Centre.

Clients must be from the Gugulethu area, including Nyanga East, Crossroads and Philippi. Prior to starting HAART, clients attend three "treatment readiness" sessions during which they learn more about HIV and AIDS, and about the treatment and its side effects. The service is provided free of charge for clients who are not on Medical Aid, in accordance with government health policy.

Any doctor or suitably qualified nurse can refer clients to the centre, preferably using the referral form which may be obtained on request from the phone numbers below. Referring health practitioners should provide relevant clinical information such as the patient's medical history, current medication, clinical staging and previous CD4 counts.
