1. Which Bursaries does the Provincial Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning offer? The Provincial Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning offers five bursaries each year for full-time studies in fields where there is a shortage of skills. In 2010 these include:
- Natural and/or Physical Sciences with majors in Environmental Management/Sciences or Air Quality Management
- Social Sciences with a major in Environmental Management/Geography/Development Studies
- Earth Science with majors in Geology or Geohydrology
- Engineering (Environmental/Civil/Chemical)
- Town and Regional Planning
2. What Does the Bursary Cover? Tuition, registration and examination fees for the duration of the course. The bursaries are for study at one of the recognised universities in the Western Cape. If you fail a year, you will have to repeat it at your own cost, after which the bursary will be reinstated if you pass. You will need to motivate other kinds of expenditure.
3. Will I Have to Pay or Work Anything Back? The bursaries are offered on a work-back basis, in other words, you will have to work for the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning for every year that you received a bursary.
4. Who Can Apply for a Bursary? To apply for one of these bursaries you must be: - A South African citizen or permanent resident
- A resident of the Western Cape
- Able to prove financial need (Include salary slips of both parents)
- Ideally from a historically disadvantaged background
- Be academically strong enough to be accepted at the relevant tertiary institution
- Prospective and current under graduates
5. How Do I Apply? Applications are now open until October 30 2009. Applications open about October of the year preceding the bursary year, so if you are planning to study in 2010 you will have to apply in October 2009. Advertisements calling for applications will appear in local newspapers such as Die Burger, the Weekend Argus and some community newspapers. |
