1. Which Bursaries Does the Department of Social Development Offer? The provincial Department of Social Development offers full-time scholarships to males who intend studying social work as well as to those who are currently studying social work. Currently the Provincial department provides scholarships to 22 Male social work students. The National Department offers scholarships to male & Female students.
What Does the Bursary Cover? The National Scholarship as well as the Provincial scholarship covers registration fees, tuition, text books, examination fees and official accommodation & meals.
Will I Have to Pay or Work Anything Back? The Scholarships are offered on a work-back basis, in other words, you will have to work back the years that the scholarship was awarded.
Where Can the Bursaries be Taken Up? The University of Cape Town, the University of the Western Cape, UNISA, the University of Stellenbosch and Huguenot College.
Who Can Apply for a Bursary? To apply for one of these bursaries you must be: - A South African citizen or permanent resident
- A resident of the Western Cape
- Able to prove financial need
- Ideally from a historically disadvantaged background
- Be accepted at the relevant tertiary institution - Provide a letter of provisional acceptance for 1st year of study. A aggregate pass rate of 55%.
