BURGER STRANDHUIS This school in Muizenberg is used as a base for educational tours of the Cape Peninsula. During school terms, groups of Grade 7 learners visit the facility for a week at a time, usually from other parts of the Western Cape or from the Northern and Eastern Cape. During 2003, board and lodging for the week cost R200 per child, while entrance-fees to the various museums and other facilities cost between R150 and R200. During school holidays, groups of less privileged children enjoy sponsored visits to the facilities. At the end of each year, a youth leaders' camp is held at the facility. Participants are elected by schools from the learners who have completed Grade 11 and who will be taking up leadership positions at the school in the following year. To book a school visit to the Burger Strandhuis, contact Mr Basson at 021 788 7027. Applications should be sent through during September/October for the following year.
