Upgrading the Qualifications of Under-qualified or Unqualified Teachers
INKCAZELO: |
The South African Council of Educators (SACE) is working with the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) and the national Department of Educators to upgrade teacher qualifications. Every teacher must have at least a three-year qualification. An interim INSET qualification, the National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE), allows teachers to upgrade their qualifications to meet the new standard (REQV 13; M+3). WHO CAN REGISTER? Educators who have REQV 11 and 12 (M+1 and M+2) may apply to enter an NPDE programme.Educators who have REQV 10 (M+0) must first do a 120-credit Certificate in Education through an institution of higher education. If an educator has a Bachelor's degree without professional components, he or she will have to enrol for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education at any accredited institution. |
