Promotion and Funding of School Sport

School sport is promoted through the School Sport Policy and the Sport Stepping Stones Scheme. These aim to initiate programmes that ensure mass participation in sport, the development of talent, promoting integration of school sport, the proper administration of school sport, and an improved proficiency of school sport role-players.The Department funds school sport programmes run in the Western Cape by the United School Sport Association of South Africa (USSASA). These funds are used to assist learners in primary and secondary schools in the Western Cape - particularly from disadvantaged communities - to participate in, or benefit from national and international competition, inter-school development via weekly zone sport events, major USSASA school sport events, provision of sport facilities and office equipment, upgrading sport facilities and improving standards of school sport programmes by addressing coaching, training and sport awareness. |
