Steering the first information session of the Construction Industry Development Board; Spencer Hodgson, CEO of CIDB and Thando Mguli, Asst. Executive Manager of Public Works.
The Public Works Branch of the Western Cape Provincial Government in conjunction with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) hosted an information session to start the registration process of all contractors in the construction industry who wish to tender for government contracts.

The CIDB is a national body established by an Act of Parliament (Act 38 of 2000) to oversee the sustainability and growth of construction enterprises across the country. The CIDB will set national standards for construction delivery and contracts by means of a Code of Conduct and by standardising construction procurement based on best practice. Therefore the CIDB has embarked on a national campaign to establish a national Register of Projects and a Register of Contractors.

Natasha Gibbs, Nadine Lefebure, Leon Fourie and Levina Norkee
Welcoming the delegates! Natasha Gibbs, Nadine Lefebure, Leon Fourie and Levina Norkee were first in line to welcome and register the delegates arriving at the CIDB information session.

The Western Cape's Public Works Branch supports this initiative and would like to invite all contractors in the construction industry to contact the CIDB at telephone; 021-4819030 It will be compulsory for contractors to be registered by not later than August 2005. The Department of Transport and Public Works will not do business with contractors who are not registered with the CIBD after the cut-off date. According to Thando Mguli from Public Works, contractors will be registering in terms of competence in order to avoid failure to complete contracts. A similar briefing session will be held during January 2005 for the Eden region in George.
