The Public Works branch in the Department of Transport and Public Works has embarked on a mission to relieve the shortage of learning facilities by fast tracking the delivery of five more schools to the value of R60 million in the province. The Masiphumelele, Table View, Nomsamo, Blue Downs and Mfuleni Senior Secondary Schools will be completed before the end of 2005. "The contractors are working at an enormous pace", says Rainer Backeberg, quantity surveyor at the Works: Education Directorate. The Head of the Department, Thami Manyathi, is pictured here laying a brick at the site where the Mfuleni Senior Secondary School is currently under construction. The bricklaying ceremony was part of the Provincial Government's Easter target announcement to the public on the status quo of service delivery. |
