We wish to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mr Rum, who was killed when two assailants opened fire on him. We have met the leadership of both Codeta and Cata yesterday and raised our concerns about the killing. We have asked that the taxi associations demonstrate the utmost restraint during this period in which the investigation takes place. We will not allow this killing to undo the work that the Committee has set out to do.
The work of the committee continues apace and it will culminate in an Imbizo for the minibus taxi industry on 30th May 2005 . We have invited all the major stakeholders, representatives from the taxi industry and political parties to attend this very important gathering where we hope to reach agreement on the issues that are causing the conflict in the industry.
We remain hopeful that the role-players will commit themselves to finding non - violent solutions to the crisis in the industry. The police investigation will continue and we hope that the killers will be brought to book.
The leadership of both Cata and Codeta have indicated to us that they abhor violence as a solution and we hope that the latest bout of attacks will not be the precursor to other violent attacks.
