Well-known historical farm Elsenburg, which houses the Department of Agriculture headquarters, is boasting new student hostels, accommodation for lecturers and a new administration building, thanks to the team at Works: General Buildings.

According to Peter Lindhorst and David Aitchison, the accommodation facilities comprise three buildings totalling an area of 1,045m², for 50 students and 4 lecturers, designed to replicate the original buildings that enclosed "Die Werf" behind the existing manor house. "We tried to stay as close as possible to the old Cape Dutch type of architecture that is evident on the historical pictures of Elsenburg," he said.

The "Ou Perdestalle" is another part of the project that initially focused on converting the building into lecture rooms, but eventually the project was altered to change the area into a wine maturation facility and museum.

The whole project was worth over R9 million.
