The provincial government, together with numerous civil society partners, will next week launch Women's Month with a comprehensive programme of events and initiatives.
A media launch on Monday 31 July, will be followed by an Inter-Faith prayer service at St George's Cathedral, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. That evening, 500 delegates from throughout the province will meet to celebrate the first chapter of SAWID (South African Women in Dialogue), in the Western Cape.
The theme for the month is "Age of Hope through struggle to freedom" and comprises five integrated elements:
- Celebrations - scheduled for 9 and 13 August
- Siyabulela deliverables - these will happen throughout the month and include mentorship programmes, support for women in business and training programmes in several fields.
- An internal focus - a range of programmes for the thousands of civil servants in the province to raise awareness of gender issues, policies and history.
- A link with the national event - hundreds of Western Cape women will travel to Pretoria to participate in the national march.
- Dialogues - several dialogues of different women's sectors will take place during the course of the month.
The Premier has committed the provincial government to accelerate its programme of Siyabulela deliverables as part of the Women's month Campaign during August 2006. The deliverables have thus become a central focus of the months events.
A full programme of events will be distributed at the media launch.
