Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool will tomorrow (Fri) join the 'ID Yourself' campaign, to be launched by Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula in Gugulethu, Cape Town, in a bid to get young people to apply for an Identity Document. The Group Chief Executive Officer of the SABC, Adv. Dali Mpofu, and the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission(IEC), Dr Brigalia Bam, will also participate in the event.

Minister Mapisa-Nqakula said: "The 'ID Yourself' outreach campaign is aimed at motivating young people - especially 16-year olds and grade 12 learners - to apply for their ID documents. This will be facilitated by the deployment of mobile units to schools across the country to provide onsite application and registration assistance. The campaign will be run in partnership with the Department of Education, the SABC, the National Youth Commission (NYC) and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in a drive to bring ID application services to secondary and high schools across the country to create a better life for our youth."

Premier Rasool said: "The 'ID Yourself' campaign is an innovative step by government to encourage our youth to apply for identity documents. The mobile units which will be visiting high schools across the country will be bringing an important service closer young people. The Western Cape Government urges the youth of our province to use this mobile service to apply for their IDs because these documents are a crucial requirement for all adults, especially those young people who are stepping out to make their mark in the world."
