"From Grassroots to Glory"
The all-embracing objective of the Directorate of Sport and Recreation is to get more people to partake in sport and recreation to benefit society. The unit achieves this through the following programmes
- Management
- Community and Senior Sport
- Recreation
- School Sport
Services are predominantly provided through the four Regional Offices that bring sport and recreation closer to all the people and communities of the Western Cape:
KEY PARTNERS
The Directorate also works closely with sports councils and associations in the province to promote ood corporate governance in the Western Cape sport and recreation sector. Some of the civil society institutions that play a key role are
- Western Cape Sport and Recreation Forum
- Western Cape Women and Sport Forum
- Disability Sport Western Cape (DISWEC)
- Western Cape Sport and Recreation Transformation Monitoring Committee
- South African Students Sport Union (SASSU) Western Cape
- Western Cape School Sport Association
- Regional Sport and Recreation Transformation Monitoring Committees
- Regional Sport and Recreation Councils
- Regional School Sport Associations
The regional federations of sport and recreation, as well as code committees that are associate members of these federations are the legal custodians of sport and recreation within the Western Cape sport and recreation sector, and are in turn affiliates of the cited macrostructures. The Western Cape Sport Academy is another important role player in the province. This provincial institution provides high performance and scientific support programmes for the Western Cape sport and recreation sector. It is part of the SA National Academy System and provides accredited services to:
- Administrators
- Elite athletes and athletes with elite potential
- Coaches
- Technical Officials
